EDNOS. As probably most of you know it stands for Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified. As a clinical diagnosis it is a “relatively new” eating disorder though I suspect people have suffered from it for much longer. An EDNOS diagnosis is usually given when someone meets some but not all the criteria for Anorexia or Bulimia.
While I myself have not been diagnosed since I was 14 *w/ anorexia* I suspect now they would classify me as EDNOS because I met most requirements w/ the exception of losing my period.
If someone suffers from more bulimic tendencies they might be given an EDNOS diagnosis cause they don’t binge and purge as often as the diagnostic criteria for bulimia says that person should. Should that make EDNOS any less of a disorder? In my opinion no. A person with EDNOS suffers just as much as someone with Anorexia or someone with Bulimia, they just have a different disease. EDNOS poses health risks just like the other two disorders and should be taken just as seriously.
